The Final Reflection

In all my assignments and everything that we conducted in class I shared my ethos and my view or stance on the discussions. To understand my ethos you must understand where I have come from, because the big part of me and my ethos reflect in all my works that I have done this semester. The ethos that I use are my own credibility's on my past experiences and what I have learned from them, because to me the background of someone gives them the credibility to what they are talking about.
My ethos start from where I was born and how I was raised to what I have done in my 23 years of life thus far. I grew up in a small town in Texas called Poolville where my family had a double wide and were big Republicans; so from the start of my life I have always loved the outdoors and adventure. From the small town we moved to a more central place closer to the DFW area in Grapevine. I never had the internet or a cell phone until I was 18 years old, so all this technology is still fairly new to me. My past work experience includes being a gun salesmen at Academy to a lifeguard, and an asst. river guide through the Grand Canyon, and my latest job was in the Marine Corps Infantry. So from my background my works included Military technology and the Rogerian paper over the 2nd amendment. So my papers are a direct reflection of my past because it was easier to write about things i already had a common knowledge of.
If I was in an exhibit and i saw my own writing in a room, I would not be ashamed of my writings. Even though they were not perfect I feel that the message that i have been relaying would have been suffice. Although my grammar and sentence structure might have been off and even if they were in the exhibit I do not think that I would be embarrassed about the fact of the comments that Mr. Mitchell put on there would bring me down. For myself I am proud of my works and I think that i voiced my opinion or my side of the argument for example when we were to write on Mr. Mitchell's blog about the digital age I said, ".. I think that is a problem. Mainly because people are so wrapped up in their own fantasy world that they forget what real life is and life just passes them by, the don't stop to smell the roses so to speak." I was saying here that technology has taken over peoples life to much that they do not stop to see what is around them, to many people I have seen running into other people or object because they are so wrapped up in their text messages they are unaware of their surroundings. Also since most people today are living in a fantasy world because of the internet they do not take the time to either live life as it is or try and make it better.
So I do think that my writings represent me well in the fact that for the most part besides the sources that I cited, I know that it is my work and it is who I am. I do take peoples opinion in to consideration because that is how my leadership style is, but if it is something that I feel strongly about like my Rogerian paper over the 2nd amendment. For that particular paper I and very pro-gun and I strongly believe that we should be able to defend ourselves. I even said,"... that being able to protect ourselves is very important from the criminals that are out there to only protect us, and if they have a doubt that they are walking into the wrong house or trying to assault the wrong person they might think twice..." So even if people do not like what they read in my personal exhibit, I still feel that my writings represent me and everyone who looks at it will have a better understanding of who I am and where I come from.

I know I have kind of dropped the ball on the blog posts this semester but i still have time to play some catch up. What i am about to tell the world was my day without technology. For my day without technology I completed this task without using a phone, TV, and a computer, pretty much the big three in the common technology world. For this day I also asked a couple of friends to par-take in the festivities. We all went out to my friends land and we had a great day of first going scuba diving, where they have a pond where they conduct scuba classes where they are instructors. I have already been certified by a class that i took in high school to get open water certified, so we went down and fooled around until we were all about out of air when we surfaced.

After that we got into some dry clothes and we also brought with us multiple firearms. Just a few to include many semi-automatic rifles and hand guns as well as the good ol' shotgun. We set up targets down range and literally had a blast shooting with all the ammunition that we bought. We had competitions to see who could shoot better in different styles of shooting, no one really admits that they lost seeing as how the looser had to buy the beer. It ranged from a long distance shoot for accuracy to a grouping shoot with hand guns, a rapid fire with a magazine change accuracy, to the good old fashion skeet shooting with shotguns. It was a load of fun and also for me is a really big stress reliever.

After all the ammo was shot up and the targets and a couple of beavers, which were damming up a spill way that is putting their scuba pond in danger of breaking and they would lose a lot of money and time making that, we saddled up and started to drive back to the city where we came across a little fun park called celebration station where we wanted to ride some go-karts. We went in and bought up a couple of tickets to ride and we set off on the course. When we started we were the first 3 karts to go so we decided to mess with everyone behind us and get 3 wide and drive really slow so no one could pass us for the first couple of laps. So we did and kinda got on some peoples nerves but then we unleashed and went out and drove, a lot of other "racers" tried, and a couple of time succeeded, to put us in the wall for our nonsense at the beginning but it was all in good fun.

After the go-kart race we headed back to Norman where we spent the remainder of the night at the old O' Connells off Lindsey where reminisced and reflected on our day which was a lot of adventure and fun.
Well in class we have spoken a lot about technology, even though i do use technology i am not an avid user like i see some people around campus. For me I like to be more social and I see people who are walking around campus texting on their phones and almost running into everyone around them clueless to their surroundings. Also I grew up in a home where if it was a nice day outside i could not be inside i had to go out and play, and i am grateful for that, and thats just who i am. I understand that there are people who are all about computers and all the technology to their fingertips and they can do some neat things with that and they should go for it. As for me the whole technology i really do not care if it continues or not because the world has been going on before all of these things and it will continue to survive no matter what. Which is also when the professor told us to try and go a day without technology I already knew i could do that having done that before so I was ready to go for it and have a great time.

This commercial was played during the recent Super Bowl, it is the commercial featuring Betty White playing football. This ad is also for the Snickers company showing a bunch of guys playing a pick up game of football, but Betty White is the symbol that if you play the game hungry then you will not be yourself. You are more than likely to play like an older person in the senior citizen age range, as the metaphor for this commercial is showing.

I do like to enjoy a snickers bar every once and a while, but I do not think that I can be able to fully identify with this particular commercial. I do agree though that when a person that is hungry usually will not act like themselves, as shown in the TV ad that playing a football game hungry you will play like Betty White.

The subject and focus of this advertisement is obviously the Snickers bar, with the purpose for this certain ad was to get guys to buy a snickers bar. Being that this commercial was shown during the Super Bowl the main target audience was for guys. The advertising staff for Snickers were more than likely going off the basis that during the Super Bowl there will be mostly men watching and there for like this commercial and the majority of all the other commercials were all geared towards men. The whole meat and potatoes of this commercial is showing that if you eat a snickers bar you when you are hungry you will become your old self again, this meaning that when people are hungry they are not their usual self. Some people when they are hungry become either tired, weak, grumpy or grouchy, now that if these people would eat a snickers bar then they would become the fulfilled and satisfying customer to the Snickers bar company.

In this particular commercial one of the players name Mike is playing football, but apparently to his friends he is playing like Betty White. Even in the huddle they are making some jokes on Mike's playing ability. Then when Mike's girlfriend pull out a snickers bar from her purse and Mike takes a bite out of it, he instantly becomes his old self again and will not be playing like Betty White any more.

So the criteria that is being shown in the commercial is that by eating a snickers bar you will become instantly rejuvenated and happily satisfied. So when the viewer watches the commercial their emotional response will be that they see these people in the commercial eat a snickers and become instantly better and back to normal, it was because of the snickers candy bar. I do find common ground with this commercial because for me personally I do like to play a pick up game of football and I also like to watch football and have the competition with the friendship of my friends, it was not until the end of the commercial that it actually becomes clear what it is about, and that is for the marketing of snickers. Although their are somethings that I might not actually find with some common ground with, and that is the fact that when I am about to do a physical activity I do not go on an empty stomach and I will eat something before hand.

The icons of this commercial I would say is the way the advertisement department of the Snickers company used Betty White. She is already a Hollywood icon just by all her work that she has done in the past that has made her the icon she is today. The use of a famous celebrity in the commercial is intended for the sales of the product, So when a customer is in the store and is at the checkout line and sees all the different types of candy sitting there, they will see the Snickers bar and remember the funny commercial that they saw previously and pick that one instead of a Kit-Kat bar or Butterfingers.

The symbols of the commercial include the the football game, and how not only can snickers cure your hungriness but also bring people together to have a good time with one an other's company. Also they are trying to get people to buy their product as the main result of the commercial but the hidden values of the candy bar is more of a minor almost hidden fact of the symbolism.

The icons and the symbols used also could go hand and hand with the constraints of the commercial as well. The ad is trying to get the common ground. Since the commercial was aired during the Super Bowl, and like all the other commercials aired during the game was to appeal to the men. Just like all the beer commercials, for example all had a male mentality. This is the same with the Doritos commercial as well as the one that is under review on this blog. Like what was said previously the constraints are using the football game to appeal and grab the attention of the viewer as well as putting a famous figure in the commercial like many other advertisements use in order to maximize the products selling capacity.

So in a way many people can relate to this advertisement even the women, because the Super Bowl was not only watched by men but women to the advertisement could relate to women by the use of Betty White and actually having women there as spectators to fill the void of not only having this ad appeal to men and men only.
